A New York City prosecutor says a University of Florida law school graduate has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for the torture and death of his girlfriend.

Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown announced the sentencing Tuesday of Jason Bohn. He was convicted of first-degree murder in March.

The trial evidence included a cellphone recording in which Weight Watchers financial analyst Danielle Thomas begged for her life. Authorities believe she accidentally dialed a friend's number as she was being beaten and strangled in June 2012. Her body was found in a New York residence, in a bathtub surrounded by ice.

The 27-year-old Thomas was a native of Danville, Ky., and also had attended the University of Florida.
