Kansas man hoping to win lottery reportedly struck by lightning instead

A Kansas man has reportedly learned the hard way that being struck by lightning is less rare than winning the lottery.

Bill Isles, of Wichita, bought three Mega Millions tickets on Thursday, hoping to become of the winners in the record-breaking jackpot. But hours later, he was struck by lightning while in his yard, KCTV reports.

Isles, a storm spotter for the National Weather Service, was on his ham radio at the time. The odds of being struck by lightning are 1 in 835,000, KCTV reports. The odds of winning Friday's Mega Millions jackpot, meanwhile, were 1  in 175 million.

"They say I will have some things with my memory that may bother me for a while," Isles said. "But I wasn't burned.  I had a little bit of an irregular heart beat."
