One person was killed and six children were critically injured after a car accident that happened in the middle of a gunfight, Kansas City police said Tuesday.
Police said a seventh person was injured by gunfire.
Sgt. Kari Thompson said in a statement that police believe the occupants of two vehicles were involved in a shootout Tuesday night when one of the vehicles struck a nearby uninvolved vehicle.
One occupant of the uninvolved vehicle was pronounced dead as a result of the accident, Thompson said. Six children who were passengers in the same vehicle were taken to local hospitals in critical condition.
Thompson said an occupant of one of the vehicles involved in the gunfight was also hospitalized in critical condition.
Fox 4 KC reports police were pursuing a possible shooting suspect into Kansas, then followed them back into Missouri, where they were apprehended by authorities.
No identities have been released and no further details were immediately available.
