If you’re a regular viewer of Happening Now, you might have seen my two reports on hiking the Inca Trail in Peru.
I recently traveled there with 21 other supporters of Compassion International, the Christian charity for children based in Colorado Springs. Each of us on the trip sponsors one or more children through Compassion, and, as part of the itinerary, we were able to see Compassion’s program—and our donations—in action.
I’ve been a Compassion supporter for a couple of decades now, and the more I see of their work, the more impressed I am. Working through local churches in some of the most impoverished places in the world, Compassion tries to live up to its motto: “Releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ name.”
Our group raised more than $60,000, enough to open two new Compassion centers in Peru. So that we could see the work already underway, we were able to visit a Compassion center that’s already up and running. The video on this page is a look at the work Compassion does and what it means to sponsored children and their families. Be sure to watch.
