Officials in Mississippi's capital city say they will finally answer questions about the shooting of a detective by a murder suspect at police headquarters.

Police Chief Rebecca Coleman has set an 11 a.m. CDT news conference Monday.

Jeremy Powell was being questioned in a fatal stabbing case April 4 when he grabbed Detective Eric Smith's gun and shot Smith four times before shooting himself twice in the head. The 23-year-old Powell and 40-year-old Smith both died in an interrogation room at Jackson police headquarters.

A person with knowledge of the investigation has told The Associated Press that events were captured on video. However, officials have refused for 11 days to discuss details of what happened. City officials said they wouldn't talk until after Smith's funeral, which was attended by hundreds Saturday at Jackson State University.
