FISHERS, Ind. – The Indiana aid worker who was killed by Islamic State militants is to be remembered in three public services.
Muslim prayers are to be offered Friday afternoon for Peter Kassig (KAS'-ihg) at the Al Huda Foundation mosque in the Indianapolis suburb of Fishers.
Kassig changed his name to Abdul-Rahman (AHB'-duhl RAHK'-muhn) Kassig when he converted to Islam in captivity.
Kassig was captured Oct. 1, 2013, while delivering aid in Syria through a relief organization he founded. Kassig's parents, Ed and Paula Kassig of Indianapolis, had issued numerous appeals for his release. The White House confirmed his death Sunday.
Other services are planned for Saturday at a gathering of the Muslim Alliance of Indiana and on Sunday at Butler University in Indianapolis.
