A northeast Ohio sheriff's office says about 170 people who received improper gun training from an instructor have been notified that their licenses to carry concealed weapons are invalid and they'll have to retake classes.

Lake County sheriff's Capt. Ron Walters tells The News-Herald in Willoughby (http://bit.ly/1EuKkFk ) that the instructor offered "fast-track" classes that cut corners and didn't require people to go to a shooting range. Walters says the instructor then distributed training certificates that people used to get their licenses.

Walters says those people have been told they need to get proper training in handling, cleaning and transporting their firearms.

Walters says the instructor himself was properly licensed. The sheriff's office was withholding the instructor's name because he hadn't been charged.
