Since last year, Tom Lehman and Ilan Zechory oversaw many changes at their company: a rebrand from 'Rap Genius' to simply ' Genius,' a co-founder's resignation, and most recently, the relocation of the entire company's Brooklyn headquarters. Instead of staying in hipster-flooded Williamsburg or joining Etsy in trendy DUMBO, they opted for a 44,000-square-foot former factory in Gowanus, a neighborhood known for its old canal. In this quick video, Genius CEO and co-founder Tom Lehman explains why he and his partner chose this spot for Genius' new stomping grounds. (Hint: They made staff needs a priority.)
