A Houston first grader was reportedly found Monday carrying a loaded gun inside his elementary school.

The gun was brought to the teacher's attention after a fellow student apparently saw the firearm, the MyFoxHouston.com report said. The quick-thinking teacher took the boy out of the classroom, secured the weapon and called police.

The boy admitted that he brought the gun from his home, the report said. The school district told the Fox affiliate that the boy's parents will likely be charged for failing to secure the firearm.

"That is scary to think that a first grade child could have a loaded gun," Renea Ivy, a school district spokeswoman, told the station.
