FRESNO, Texas – A Houston-area woman says she was sure that a 14-year-old Mexican girl brought to the United States with the help of authorities was her kidnapped daughter — until DNA tests proved otherwise.
In an interview with KPRC-TV of Houston, Dorotea Garcia says that when she first saw Alondra Luna, in her words, "I saw my daughter."
But DNA tests showed she isn't Garcia's daughter. Luna has been returned to her family in Mexico.
Last week's removal of the screaming girl from her middle school provoked an outcry from her family, who said federal police ignored proof of her identity. Federal police said they acted on a judge's order to send the girl to Garcia, who had said the girl was taken illegally to Mexico by her father years ago.
