WASHINGTON – It took just hours for Homeland Security Secretary Jeh (jay) Johnson to put the agency's former internal watchdog on leave after a Senate report concluded the employee was too cozy with senior Homeland Security Department officials. The report says he also delayed or classified some critical reports to accommodate President Barack Obama's political appointees.
In December, Charles K. Edwards had been allowed to quietly resign as acting inspector general and transfer to another post within Homeland Security shortly before Johnson took office.
But after Johnson reviewed a 27-page report from a Senate Homeland Security oversight subcommittee, he put Edwards on leave.
Johnson's quick response was at least his third move to tamp down potential political scandals.
