FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A Florida woman is expected to plead guilty to federal charges involving threats last year that prompted an hours-long lockdown at the nation's sixth-largest school system.
Court records show a hearing is set for Monday in Fort Lauderdale for 48-year-old Ellisa Martinez to enter a guilty plea. Martinez had previously pleaded not guilty to charges that she sent e-mail and telephone threats involving guns and schools to a conservative radio talk show host.
The Nov. 10 threats caused a lockdown affecting some 275,000 students at 300 Broward County schools. Martinez fled her New Port Richey home and was later arrested by the FBI in southern California.
Martinez faces a maximum five-year prison sentence if the plea deal goes through. Her attorney did not respond to a request for comment.
