Officials say a grizzly bear has killed a hiker at Denali National Park -- the first fatal attack in the park's history.

Denali Park officials say the hiker was backpacking alone along the Toklat River on Friday afternoon when he was attacked. A wallet was found near the site of the attack with probable identification.

Next of kin have yet to be notified.

Officials say on Friday afternoon three day hikers stumble upon an abandoned backpack along the river. They also saw torn clothing and blood, and immediately alerted park staff.

Park rangers then located the site via a helicopter Friday night.

Park rangers are due back at the site on Saturday to recover the remains and attempt to locate the predatory bear.
