Police say a Baltimore County officer suffered a minor graze wound after prematurely pulling the trigger during a routine exercise at a firing range in Maryland.

Authorities say the officer accidentally shot himself as he grabbed his firearm from its holster during a firearms qualification exercise in Towson. The officer, who wasn't identified, was performing timed drills that test an officer's ability to fire from various positions.

The officer is reported in good condition after being taken to the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

Police say the range was closed after what they called a "highly unusual incident." An internal investigation is ongoing.
