Two Texas police officers have been placed on administrative leave after shooting and killing a grandfather who was checking on his neighbor’s burglar alarm.
The incident happened near the Woodhaven Country Club early Tuesday and is being investigated by Fort Worth Police, according to a statement from the department.
Jerry Wayne Waller, 72, heard his neighbor’s alarm and was shot five times in his driveway as police were responding to a call, former Fort Worth City Council member Becky Haskin told CBS 11.
Fort Worth Police Cpl. Tracey Knight said Waller, who police said has a few grandkids, was carrying a handgun and the officers opened fire after feeling “threatened.” Both were uninjured.
After the shooting, Haskin said the officers “were sobbing uncontrollably and very distraught.”
