MIAMI – Former Tropical Storm Gert continues to weaken as it heads northeast into the open waters of the Atlantic after skirting past Bermuda.
The storm had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph as of Tuesday afternoon. The storm is centered about 505 miles south of Cape Race, Newfoundland and is moving northeast near 29 mph. The National Hurricane Center says this motion should consider until the storm dissipates
Meanwhile in the Pacific, Tropical Storm Fernanda is strengthening well away from land. The tropical storm has maximum sustained winds near 50 mph, was moving west near 10 mph and was 2290 miles east-southeast of South Point, Hawaii. It could become a hurricane by Thursday. Neither storm threatens land.
