Former New York Times editor Jill Abramson to teach writing at Harvard University

BOSTON – Former New York Times Executive Editor Jill Abramson is joining Harvard University as a visiting lecturer this coming school year.

The university announced Thursday that Abramson will teach undergraduate courses on "narrative non-fiction" in the fall and spring semesters. She was the first woman to hold the newspaper's top editorial post before her dismissal in May.

Abramson is a 1976 Harvard graduate. She was an investigative reporter, Washington bureau chief, managing editor and executive editor at the Times from 1997 to 2014.

She was previously an investigative reporter and deputy Washington bureau chief at the Wall Street Journal and editor of Legal Times.

Abramson has also taught at Yale and Princeton and is author of several books, including "Strange Justice: The Selling of Clarence Thomas" with Jane Mayer.
