NORTH HAVERHILL, N.H. – A former Fortune 500 executive has been sentenced to between nine and 20 years in prison for causing a highway crash that killed a Vermont couple and their unborn fetus.
The Valley News of West Lebanon, New Hampshire, reports that 54-year-old Robert Dellinger of Sunapee was sentenced Thursday. Dellinger has been jailed without bail since the December 2013 crash.
Prosecutors said Dellinger was trying to kill himself when he drove his pickup truck across a highway median at more than 100 mph and smashed into an SUV, killing 24-year-old Amanda Murphy, who was 8 months pregnant, and her fiance, 29-year-old Jason Timmons.
Dellinger told the court he wasn't suicidal. He had pleaded guilty to negligent homicide and assault.
Prosecutors were seeking 12 to 24 years in prison.
