BELLEFONTE, Pa. – A former central Pennsylvania corrections officer has been convicted of animal cruelty charges in connection with the death of his K-9 partner last summer.

Forty-year-old Chad Holland was found guilty following a bench trial Wednesday for the death of Totti, a 2-year-old yellow Labrador. Holland was in charge of the dog.

Holland was sentenced to serve two days at the Centre County Correctional Facility.

A message left seeking comment Friday from his lawyer wasn't immediately returned.

Authorities say Holland left Totti in his car unattended with the windows and doors closed as the officer unloaded narcotics training aids at Rockview state prison on July 7. Totti was found unresponsive after being inside the hot vehicle for about 2 ½ hours. The dog later died after suffering a seizure.
