PORTLAND, Ore. – A former member of an Oregon youth camping group run by the Seventh-day Adventist Church has sued the church and its worldwide headquarters, claiming he suffered sexual abuse before and after informing church authorities.
The man, who was not identified in a complaint filed Wednesday in Multnomah County Circuit Court, is seeking $5.25 million from the church.
According to the lawsuit, the man was part of the church's Pathfinder Club in Junction City in 1975 when a counselor sexually assaulted him. The man says he informed church authorities but stayed in the program.
On a camping trip after informing church authorities, the man says in the lawsuit that the counselor assaulted him again.
The church did not return calls from The Associated Press on Wednesday.
