A Florida bicyclist was given a ticket for riding outside a designated bike lane even though police say she was in a group of 30 with most other riders also disobeying the rule.
The Orlando Sentinel reported that the bicyclist, Molli Serrano, was picked out from the group because she was wearing a purple outfit.
Deputy Dominic Raimondi said he had to pick one rider so he decided to “fixate” on the one in purple, the paper reported. Serrano, a cancer survivor, wears purple to bring awareness to pancreatic cancer.
Serrano plans on fighting the ticket because according to her attorney, it’s legal for a bike rider to pass a slower rider in the bike lane. The police officer, however, says the group of riders were clogging traffic.
