The family of an Alaska-based soldier arrested on suspicion of espionage has hired a Dallas attorney whose single focus is defending military members in criminal prosecutions and other matters.

The lawyer, Steve Karns, says the parents of 22-year-old Spc. William Colton Millay retained him Thursday.

Karns says he has not yet spoken to his client or the military and knows little about the case.

Millay, of Owensboro, Ky., was arrested last week at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage in an investigation conducted by the U.S. Army and FBI.

Army officials expect charges to be filed through the military justice system this week. For now, they are withholding information about the case.

Karns says he is a former Army major judge advocate general at Fort Carson in Colorado.
