Illinois' child welfare agency had prior contact with the family of a 4-year-old boy whose malnourished, partially burned remains were found by Chicago firefighters this week.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services says it received a report in 2012 for neglect and took protective custody of four children, including 4-year-old Manuel Aguilar. The children were released to their mother in 2015 after she complied with agency requests, including parenting classes.

An abuse allegation of an older child this year was deemed unfounded.

The agency is now investigating Aguilar's death and took protective custody of his five siblings.

Bond has been set at $2 million for the mother, Alyssa Garcia. She faces felony counts of concealed death and attempted residential arson. Two other people also have been charged.
