Deputies: Florida Woman Attempts to Kill Infant With Rock

MARATHON, Fla. -- A 19-year-old Florida Keys woman has been charged with attempting to murder a two-month-old child.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says a video obtained by investigators with the Department of Children and Families shows Elizabeth Garcia trying to hit the child with a rock.

The video reportedly shows Garcia holding the child in one arm and with a piece of concrete in her other hand. When she tried to strike the child, two men nearby were able to stop her.

Deputies say they were called to Garcia's home in Marathon the same date as the incident, Aug. 18. She allegedly pulled out a knife in a confrontation with deputies and was charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

Authorities say no one at the time mentioned the incident with the child.
