A suburban New York father is facing homicide charges after his infant son was left in a car for about 30 minutes and died.

Nassau County homicide detectives say the baby was left in the front seat of a car in Hempstead on Tuesday.

Police say 25-year-old Devon A. Fenner reported that he left his 7-month-old son Dominick Fenner in his 2003 Toyota for about 30 minutes.

The child was unconscious when rescue personnel arrived. CPR was administered but the child died at Mercy Hospital Center about 40 minutes later.

Fenner is facing arraignment on a criminally negligent homicide charge. The name of his attorney was not immediately available.

Temperatures on Long Island were in the mid-80s Tuesday. A court document estimated the temperature inside the car at 119 degrees.
