COLUMBIA, Mo. – Two people were rescued from a cave at a Missouri state park after they became trapped by rising water following recent heavy rains, authorities said.
Broadcast outlet KMIZ reported that emergency crews rescued the first person Wednesday night from the cave at Rock Bridge Memorial State Park near Columbia. Boone County Fire District Assistant Chief Josh Creamer said the second person was removed early Thursday.
Creamer didn't identify the pair nor give details of their conditions. He said they had been spelunking.
The park is known for its caves and underground streams, and KOMU-TV reported that crews used rafts, canoes and a speedboat in their rescue efforts.
Earlier on Wednesday, authorities helped to free a woman in the same park who had become trapped by high water.
