A New York county has fired two child welfare employees and suspended two supervisors following the beating death of a 5-year-old boy who had been the subject of repeated calls for help.

A statement Wednesday from Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz says the leaders of the Child Protective Services and Children's Services divisions also have been reassigned.

The actions follow a review of the Sept. 17 death of Eain Clayton Brooks, who was beaten inside his Buffalo home.

Family members tell media outlets they made repeated calls to child welfare officials demanding the boy be removed from the home.

Matthew Kuzdzal (KUHD'-zuhl), the 26-year-old boyfriend of the boy's mother, has been charged with second-degree murder. Kuzdzal's assigned attorney couldn't be reached for comment.
