Notes made by a coroner say Cleveland kidnapper and rapist Ariel Castro committed suicide by hanging himself with a sheet attached to a window hinge in his prison cell.

The preliminary report by the Franklin County coroner viewed Friday by The Associated Press says Castro was found facing the door of the cell with his knees bent.

The report says two sheets of paper were found in the cell, one with Bible verses written on it and the other with the names of Castro's children and grandchildren.

A Bible open to the book of John was also found in the cell.

Coroner Jan Gorniak (GOR'-nee-ak) says she's awaiting toxicology results before issuing a final report on Castro's Sept. 3 suicide.

WKYC-TV first reported details of the preliminary report.
