New York state police say a 39-year-old Hudson Valley man has been charged with killing a woman acquaintance who went missing in early July from her hometown in Pennsylvania.

They say 27-year-old Kathleen Connolly's body was found during a search Wednesday outside the home of Timothy Handel in New Windsor, an Orange County town 55 miles north of New York City. She had lived in the county before moving to Lancaster, Pa.

Handel was arraigned early Thursday morning on a second-degree murder charge. He pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail at the county jail.

Police haven't released information on how Connolly was killed or details of her relationship with Handel.

District Attorney Frank Phillips says the case will be presented to a grand jury next week.
