A California man is being held without bail after police say he confessed to cutting up his mother and storing her remains in a freezer.

Investigators say 19-year-old Moises Meraz-Espinoza walked into a Huntington Park police station Friday and said he murdered his mother and put her body in a freezer at their apartment in Maywood, Calif.

Sheriff's Detective Kathy Gallagher told the Los Angeles Times Saturday that investigators have not confirmed that the body is the man's mother, but they've been led to believe so.

"He was very quiet," neighbor Joe Perez told MyFoxPhoenix.com. "He was a nice guy, but he was hanging around with the wrong people -- like his girlfriend died and he started going crazy."

The investigation is ongoing.
