Suspect stole car with baby in the backseat
A San Jose construction worker rescued a 1-year-old boy Monday when the toddler's suspected kidnapper tried pawning the child off on strangers.

Colin Blevin saved the 1-year-old after the suspect, Raymond Randy Gutierrez, attempted to convince a couple to take the boy. Blevin reached into the car, took the boy out and called 911.
“My spider sense is going off…Something’s not right here,” Blevin said of his thinking.

Early Monday morning, the child’s father had left the baby sitting in the car as he rushed into his home to grab his lunch. But the man came back outside to find his car -- and son -- missing.
Soon after the disappearance, an Amber Alert for the boy was sent out from the Soledad Police.
Blevin had not heard the alert, however, when he encountered the suspect blocking his work entrance. Blevin got out of the car to ask the driver to move and noticed a baby in the back seat and the disoriented driver, The Mercury News reported.
The suspect allegedly tried to leave the baby with a couple that lived in an RV nearby when Blevin stepped in.

Blevin said the woman in the RV looked at him and said, “Help me save this baby," which prompted him to take the baby out of the car and call the police.
Gutierrez, 42, was arrested a few hours later and was booked in Monterey County Jail.
He is facing charges of grand theft auto, kidnapping, child
cruelty, child stealing and vehicle theft.
“The child is safe, and the parents get their baby back. This is a win for us,” Soledad Deputy Chief Damon “Chuck” Wasson said.
