Conn. woman charged with assaulting just-married daughter

A Connecticut woman was charged with assault after she slapped her just-married daughter in the face shortly after the wedding, authorities said.

Leslie Duane, 55, of West Haven, was intoxicated when she hit her 35-year-old daughter following a ceremony at the Arabian Horse Farm Inn in Sudbury, Mass. on Sunday, according to a report from the MetroWest Daily News.

Duane became heavily intoxicated during the wedding reception, to the point where her daughter and several others escorted her outside, prosecutor Warren Lee said during Duane’s arraignment on Wednesday.

But when she was being helped into the car, Duane slapped her daughter, Lee said.

“(The wedding) was beautiful,” Duane told Framingham District Court Associate Justice Douglas Stoddart. “It was after the wedding was over” that things got out of hand, she said.

Duane, who was charged with assault and battery, posted $200 bail, and Stoddart ordered her not to abuse her daughter.

Duane’s next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 6.
