Community activists want answers and justice in the death of an 18-year-old man shot by a North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper this spring.

Media outlets report the Pitt County Coalition Against Racism and the Kinston-Lenoir County Justice Coalition delivered a letter Thursday to District Attorney Matthew Delbridge.

Deriante Miller was shot March 27 at a Lenoir County nightclub. Trooper William Hardison says Miller was running and pointing a gun at the officer and refused to drop the gun. Some witnesses contradict that account.

The State Bureau of Investigation has given the results of its investigation to Delbridge. No decision has been made on charges.

Don Cavellini with the Coalition Against Racism says he wants Hardison charged with murder.

Hardison was on paid leave but is back at work.
