SAN DIEGO -- The U.S. Coast Guard resumed a search Wednesday for a cruise ship passenger who disappeared somewhere between Mexico's Baja California coast and San Diego.
The missing passenger is a 65-year-old woman whose name has not been released. She did not show up Tuesday for a customs check when the Celebrity Millennium docked in San Diego.
Coast Guard Petty Officer Henry Dunphy said it was possible the woman went overboard.
FBI spokesman Darrell Foxworth said agents were also investigating.
It was the first U.S. port of call after the ship stopped in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
"She was back on the boat after Cabo and was seen aboard the ship while in transit, and then she came up missing in San Diego," Dunphy said.
A Coast Guard helicopter took off at 7 a.m. Wednesday from San Diego and a C-130 aircraft departed Sacramento as part of the search that was slightly narrowed, now stretching from San Diego about 150 miles south along the Baja California coast to near Bahia de San Quintin.
In the meantime, a patrol boat is tracing the cruise ship's route to search for the woman.
The search began Tuesday and was suspended after the sun went down.
A call to a spokeswoman for Miami-based Celebrity Cruises after business hours Tuesday was not immediately returned.
The cruise began in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and is destined for Vancouver, British Columbia.
