A jury will begin hearing closing arguments in the trial of five current or former police officers charged in deadly shootings on a New Orleans bridge after Hurricane Katrina.

Jurors are scheduled to hear roughly eight hours of closing arguments Tuesday before they start deliberating on Wednesday.

Testimony for the trial ended Friday after five weeks of prosecution and defense witnesses.

Four current or former officers are charged in the shootings that killed two people and wounded four others on the Danziger Bridge less than a week after the 2005 storm that devastated the city. A fifth defendant, retired Sgt. Arthur Kaufman, is charged with participating in an alleged cover-up.

Federal prosecutors say police shot unarmed, wounded people. Defense attorneys say officers were shot at before they returned fire.
