An 8-year-old Chicago girl was shot in the arm as she attended a vigil for a 14-year-old boy who had been fatally shot earlier.

Police say third-grader Jamia Barnes was shot Sunday on the city's West Side during a vigil for Malik Causey, a friend of her brother who was fatally shot earlier Sunday. Jamia says she felt her arm stinging and she called for her mother when the bullet hit her. Chicago police say she's one of more than two dozen children under age 13 shot so far this year in the city.

Chicago police say no one is in custody. Police say a 40-year-old woman was shot in the hand in the same vigil.

The Chicago Tribune reports Jamia's aunt was shot dead seven years ago.
