A suburban Chicago high school district is considering a settlement in the case of a transgender student seeking unrestricted use of the girls' locker room.

The Chicago Tribune reports that Township High School District 211 in Palatine plans to vote on a proposed agreement at a special board meeting scheduled for Wednesday evening.

The U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights previously concluded that the district violated federal law by not permitting the student -- who was born male and identifies as female -- full access to the locker room.

Federal officials gave the district 30 days to reach an agreement or risk the termination or suspension of federal funding, and possible litigation.

District officials haven't released details of the proposed agreement.

Federal officials must approve any agreement.
