Massachusetts police are investigating the theft of about $15,000 worth of toys from a storage container holding donations to the "Toys for Tots" charity program, MyFoxBoston.com reports.

The toys were reportedly being stored in a container at a Burlington, Mass., facility and were awaiting distribution to charities that serve families in need. Evidence suggests the toys were stolen some time between 2:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Saturday, according to the station.

Police found signs of forced entry, and believe that a tool or other implement was used.

Police told the station that a Toys for Tots program coordinator, who discovered the theft, estimates that approximately 1,500 toys -- worth about $15,000 -- were taken.

A preliminary investigation suggests that the suspect or suspects sorted through the toys and only stole items valued from $15 to $30, the station reports.
