The movie about notorious Boston gangster James "Whitey" Bulger is making its Massachusetts premiere.

A private screening of "Black Mass" is scheduled for the Coolidge Corner Theater on Tuesday.

The arthouse theater in Brookline says on its Facebook page that Johnny Depp, who plays Bulger, and co-star Dakota Johnson are expected to attend.

The movie is based on the book of the same name by former Boston Globe reporters Dick Lehr and Gerard O'Neill.

Bulger is now serving life in federal prison after being convicted in 2013 of playing a role in 11 killings and multiple other crimes.

"Black Mass" made its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival and was also screened at the Toronto International Film Festival.

It's scheduled for general release on Friday.
