PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A Brown University task force on sexual assault recommends the school handle complaints in a more timely fashion and reduce the "tramatic nature" of the process.
The task force released an interim report Wednesday, also recommending that the university provide the campus community with timely information about occurrences of sexual violence and do more to educate the community about the issue.
The report says campus community members widely believe that sanctions against those found to have committed sexual violence are too lenient and that the criteria for these sanctions are vague.
Last month, Brown reported that a student had tested positive for a date-rape drug after drinking at a fraternity party.
The task force was formed this year amid increased national scrutiny of how colleges handle sexual assault complaints.
