BOSTON – Two brothers charged with beating a Hispanic homeless man in Boston after being inspired in part by Donald Trump's views on immigrants have been held without bail pending trial.
A judge ruled Thursday that Scott and Steve Leader are a danger to society and ordered them held until a trial scheduled to start Oct. 1.
The Leaders were arrested Aug. 19 on charges they beat a 58-year-old Mexican immigrant while he slept near a subway station. According to police, one brother told officers that Republican presidential candidate Trump "was right" about deporting "all these illegals."
Trump denounced the attack.
The Leaders have a history of violent criminal behavior. Their lawyers have not commented.
Scott Leader told police the victim instigated the confrontation.
