The elementary school student in Washington state who brought a gun to school and accidentally shot a fellow student wrote a letter of apology to the young girl who was critically wounded.
“I’m sorry I hurt you because I brought a gun to school,” reads the letter, written on ruled notebook paper by the 9-year-old to the victim, Amina Kocer-Bowman, according to a story published in the Seattle Times.
The letter was a part of the child’s probation sentencing for the Feb. 22 incident at Bremerton Elementary School.
"I did not mean for any one [sic] to get hurt. I wish no one got hurt," the letter also reads. "I wish you were out of the hospital playing basketball and going back to school. I wish everyone was okay."
The letter was written during counseling he was ordered to receive by the court.
Kocer-Bowman was released from the hospital on Tuesday after a 41-day stay. She has five surgeries during that time. She still requires a feeding tube in her stomach and has a .45-caliber bullet permanently lodged near her spine.
