LITTLE FALLS, N.J. -- The bomb squad detonated two World War II-era grenades that had been hanging on a basement wall in a New Jersey home for about 50 years.

A contractor doing work at the house in Little Falls discovered the grenades.

Police Sgt. Jim Briggs told The Record newspaper the homeowner told police her husband, who had recently died, was a World War II veteran and the grenades had been there for decades.

She believed they were dummies.

The Passaic County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad detonated the grenades.
