PORTLAND, Ore. – Police say a blood trail left by an intruder in a Portland commercial airline pilot's home led them to arrest a young Gresham man accused of breaking in and stealing the pilot's credentials, uniform and passport.
Jeromy Oelschlager is a 39-year-old pilot for SkyWest Airlines. He tells The Oregonian that he left his home for less than an hour on Jan. 2 and returned to find broken windows, a trail of blood and evidence of a burglary.
Police say DNA from that blood helped them arrest 21-year-old Deshatin Motley this week on a first-degree burglary allegation. Motley's DNA profile was in a state database.
Police think Motley is one of three people involved.
The pilot says he's replaced his credentials and the FBI has been alerted to ensure the stolen documents aren't misused.
The newspaper says Motley was in custody on other accusations when the DNA link was made.
Motley was arraigned Wednesday in Circuit Court and is due back in court March 22.
