A bail hearing has been postponed for a Florida man described by the FBI as an Islamic State sympathizer plotting to detonate a backpack bomb at a beach.

Defense attorney Richard Della Fera said he wanted the delay Monday so he could review U.S. government surveillance of his client, Harlem Suarez of Key West.

Suarez remains jailed on charges of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction. The FBI says Suarez made Facebook posts praising the Islamic State group and sought to recruit others for the plot.

Della Fera says Suarez is distraught at being detained in isolation. He describes his client as "very immature for his age" with "a low intellect." He says Suarez became obsessed with "sensationalized" media reports about the Islamic State group.

Suarez faces life in prison.
