Authorities: Woman stabbed to death in Oregon restaurant; officer fatally wounds armed man

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) — Authorities say a woman is dead and an armed man has been fatally wounded by a police officer responding to a call for help from a suburban Portland restaurant.

Hillsboro Police Lt. Mike Rouches says an officer responded late Thursday to an incomplete 911 call from the restaurant.

The officer saw a woman who had been stabbed lying on the floor, with a man standing over her with a bloody knife. Rouches says the armed man began approaching the officer, who fired his gun.

The woman died at the scene. Rouches says the critically wounded man was taken by helicopter to a Portland hospital, where he died.

The man and woman were described only as being in their early 30s. The spokesman says the stabbing "could be a domestic violence situation."

The officer wasn't immediately identified.
