PRINCETON, W.Va. – West Virginia State Police say a sheriff's deputy in Mercer County has been involved in a fatal shooting.
State police spokesman Lt. Michael Baylous says 69-year-old Dennis Stanley was fatally shot Saturday along Route 71 in the Montcalm area when a deputy responded to a report of an erratic driver brandishing a gun. He says the investigation is open and declined to release more information.
Mercer County Prosecutor Scott Ash told local media that three deputies responded, but declined to discuss what led to the shooting. He says authorities are reviewing 911 calls, police car videos and any police body cameras that may exist.
