Authorities say they have recovered body of climber who fell into crevasse on Mt. Jefferson

PORTLAND, Ore. – Authorities have recovered the body of a climber who died after falling into a crevasse on Mount Jefferson in Oregon.

A combat medic with the National Guard and a climber with the Corvallis Mountain Rescue Team were lowered onto the mountain on Tuesday. The two assisted a helicopter in recovering the body of Tommy Fountain.

The 32-year-old Fountain fell Sunday while climbing with his wife at an elevation of 8,800 feet. She spent the night on the mountain, texting with rescuers who found her in good condition.

Searchers could not reach the couple until Monday because of difficult terrain. Severe weather prevented the recovery of the body.

Alison Fountain's Facebook page indicates she works as a nurse in Corvallis. Photos on Tommy Fountain's Facebook page show he was an avid climber.
