Officials say 20 people believed to be from Haiti came ashore in South Florida.

Hillsboro Beach Police Maj. Jay Szesnat says nearby residents alerted them that the migrants were on the beach early Monday. One woman was found dead in the surf, a second was taken to a hospital for treatment and 17 were turned over to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Another man was found in nearby Boca Raton and was taken into custody.

The Miami Herald reports it was not clear how they got to shore since no boat was found.

The Broward Sheriff's Office will handle the death investigation.

The group included several children.

Officials say there is no correlation "at this point" to four bodies found floating in the water off Hollywood Beach on Sunday.
