A 4-year-old boy is dead after being left in a stifling hot vehicle while outside temperatures in Las Vegas reached 100 degrees.

Officer Laura Meltzer said Friday that authorities were called about 6:30 p.m. Thursday after the child was found in the vehicle at a home east of downtown.

The child was taken to Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Lt. Tom Melton tells the Las Vegas Sun (http://bit.ly/1JqojNR ) the child's grandfather told police he had the boy with him while running errands, and that they returned home about 5 p.m.

The National Weather Service recorded 100 degree temperatures in Las Vegas at that time.

No arrests were made pending a child abuse and neglect investigation.
